On Tuesday, the Labella family aired a statement with regards to the condition of the city mayor.

According to Eugene, son of a 70-year-old politician, his father’s condition is not deteriorating. In fact, he’s recuperating from pneumonia.

The mayor of Cebu City was already transferred to a private room after he was briefly brought to the intensive care unit of a private hospital due to minor sepsis.

Edgardo Labella told his son JP that he will resign despite his health condition.

Currently, the Queen City of the South is being run by Vice Mayor Michael Rama as acting mayor while Labella is battling pneumonia.

Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs.

The air sacs may fill with fluid or pus (purulent material), causing cough with phlegm or pus, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing.

Before his recurring pneumonia, he suffered from prostate cancer way back in 2009. Fortunately, he was cleared after undergoing an operation.

It was on January 21 this year when his series of absences started. It was due to an ear infection that lead to sepsis.

Labella is no longer seeking reelection next year according to his family.

Prior to becoming mayor, he served two consecutive terms as Vice Mayor of Cebu City from 2013 to 2019 and was a member of the City Council representing Cebu City’s North District from 1998 to 2001 and again from 2004 to 2013.
