Sara Duterte’s decision “will most certainly affect the political landscape”, according to Alfonso Cusi.
Here’s what Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi said about Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s decision to run for a national position in the 2022 elections.
In a statement, PDP-Laban faction president Cusi said that the party watched with keen interest the developments on Mayor Sara’s decision to withdraw her certificate of candidacy (COC) for reelection, especially considering the public support she enjoyed.
According to Cusi, Mayor Sara’s actions “will most certainly affect the political landscape”.
Earlier, the faction’s vice-presidential candidate Senator Bong Go tearfully hinted that there could be “changes” in his 2022 plans in light of Mayor Sara’s moves to withdraw her reelection bid at the local COMELEC office in Davao City.
“Alam niyo, magulo ang pulitika. Maraming pangyayari sa mga nakaraang oras na ayaw ko, na mahirap niyong maintindihan. Itong kandidatura ko bilang bise presidente ay maaaring magbago,” Senator Go said in a speech last Tuesday.
Mayor Sara’s withdrawal of her certificate of candidacy (COC) for reelection as Davao City mayor left the public pondering on what her final plans will be for next year.

Inquirer reported that the presidential daughter was said to be training her sights on Malacañang and was touted to be her father’s likely successor considering her high popularity survey ratings.
There were even speculations that Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, the current standard-bearer of the PDP-Laban faction who was a close ally of President Duterte, was only a placeholder for the Davao City mayor.
The senator himself admitted that he would prefer if Mayor Sara would run for president in his place.
Running for the presidency, however, wasn’t Mayor Sara’s only option as speculations of her running as the vice-presidential candidate of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr were spurred after the two political figures met in Cebu City last October.
Meanwhile, Albay 2nd District Representative Joey Salceda said that Mayor Sara will announce before November 15 her final political plans for next year.
