Kuya Kim, whose real name is Kim Atienza, is the former resident weatherman of ABS-CBN primetime newscast, TV Patrol for 17 years.

Following his transfer to GMA-7, rumors spread that he will replace Mang Tani as the resident meteorologist of 24 Oras.

But in a press interview, he refuted that he would be replacing his “mentor” in the primetime newscast of GMA-7.

He also revealed that he has known Mang Tani for quite a long time.

According to Kuya Kim, Mang Tani was his mentor when he was a beginner in ABS-CBN and at the time, Mang Tani was already the spokesperson and head meteorologist in PAGASA.

“And he would give me one-on-one lessons. He was my mentor in PAGASA before I became a weatherman,” he said.

Mang Tani was a meteorologist of PAGASA from 1983 until 2010 before he became a resident meteorologist of Kapuso network in 2012.

“Ang kakayanan ni Mang Tani, hindi ko matutumbasan. Kailangan ko muna mag-aral sa isang unibersidad at makakuha ng doctorate sa meteorology para mapalapit kay Mang Tani,” he stressed.

Now that they are together in 24 Oras, Kuya Kim believes that the talent he and Mang Tani can share in the program is complimentary.

Mang Tani is currently in Australia but he’s still a part of 24 Oras.

In the said presscon, Kuya Kim was also asked about his TV Patrol tagline: “Laging tatandaan, ang buhay ay weather-weather lang.”

But according to him, ABS-CBN has a copyright on the said tagline, which was originally taken from ’90s sitcom, “Ang Abangan Ang Susunod Na Kabanata.”
