Mayor Isko Moreno Reveals Stand on Vote Selling / Buying
MAYOR ISKO MORENO – The Manila City Mayor revealed his side on the act of accepting money from politicians ahead of Election 2022.
Recently, talks about vote-buying and vote-selling crossed the surface. Several presidential aspirants gave their side on the election matters.
For presidential aspirant and Vice President Leni Robredo, she advised the people to accept the money claiming that it is from the government but she reminded them to vote according to conscience. She stressed that a person must not think about gratitude in exchange for the money received and must really vote who they want to vote for.
Another presidential aspirant, Senator Manny Pacquiao, spoke on the issue. He is against it and he encourages Filipinos not to engage in it as it is allegedly equivalent to six (6) years of struggle. According to him, the future of the Philippines is at stake in such activity.
Recently, another presidential candidate, Mayor Isko Moreno, revealed his stand on vote buying and vote selling matters. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the capital city Mayor will not criticize those Filipinos accepting money from politicians.
According to Mayor Isko, the people know that is wrong and there are rules. But, he also stressed that he does not know the situation of the person who received the money and that person might really be in need of financial assistance.
“Who am I to judge? Hindi ko naman alam ‘yung hirap mo sa buhay baka may pangangailangan ka,” the Manila Mayor said.
Mayor Isko Moreno said that accepting money from politicians does not mean that it will change the character of the person. He believes that the Filipinos voters are wise and can outsmart the candidates.
Based on the report, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) said that it is wrong for candidates to give out money to the public but the election campaign period has yet to start thus possible scenarios now may not be considered an offense. The official campaign period will start in February 2022.
