Isko Moreno airs sentiment over Dolomite Beach overcrowding
ISKO MORENO – The incumbent mayor of Manila called on the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) to file charges against officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in connection with the overcrowding at the Dolomite Beach in Manila Bay.
It was on October 16 when the man-made attraction was reopened to the public.
A lot of people went to the beach early to see for themselves the controversial attraction. They brought their phones and cameras with them to take photos of the newly opened spot.
In order to maintain minimum health protocols, police were displaced in the area. Only 300 to 500 individuals at a time will be allowed.
However, thousands of people flock to the attraction including 12-year-old kids. As a result, the health and safety protocols were violated.
This prompted Manila Mayor Isko Moreno to air his sentiment on the overcrowding in Dolomite Beach.
According to him, the DENR is in control of the area.
“I am calling IATF: Charge those people in DENR violating our rules. If we cannot implement it in their offices, then there is no point to implement it sa mga taumbayan,” he said.
In a briefing at the Palace, DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda admitted that the department had lapsed but the agency took immediate action.
“Sinasabi nila na nagkaroon ng violation ng social distancing. Immediately, na-address po ‘yan. Nagkulang ng kaunti pero naagapan po,” the DENR official said.
Meanwhile, IATF and DENR have yet to issue any statement regarding the remark of presidential candidate Isko Moreno.
To recall, the man-made attraction was heavily criticized for costing millions and coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic.
