Harry Roque was still hoping that Davao Mayor Sara Duterte will run for president in the 2022 elections.
HARRY ROQUE — The Presidential spokesperson was still hoping that Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte will run for president in the 2022 elections.
This was apparent during the Presidential press briefing Tuesday when the Palace spokesman was asked whether or not he would run for a Senate seat in the 2022 elections.
Despite sounding resigned to his fate last week that he would no longer run for senator, Roque said still hoping that he would get to run along with Mayor Sara.
Roque also noted that a lot of people were still hoping that Mayor Sara will run in the 2022 elections for as long as the substitution period wasn’t yet over.
“Alam ko po sinabi niya (Sara Duterte) hindi na talaga. Pero malay niyo naman po, magkaroon ng milagro,” Roque said.
The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) will allow those who filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) to be substituted until November 15, 2021.
Manila Bulletin reported that some political observers have said that a way for Mayor Sara to join the presidential race was her potential substitution of Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa as a standard-bearer of Cusi-led Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) party.
Mayor Sara’s father, President Rodrigo Duterte, was the chairman of the party.
Former Tourism Secretary and Cebu gubernatorial candidate Ace Durano revealed that a presidential aspirant of Partido Pilipino sa Pagbabago (PPP) offered his slot for Mayor Sara.

PDP-Laban had earlier named the Palace spokesman as a guest candidate in its senatorial slate. However, Roque had insisted for months that he would only run for senator if Mayor Sara will run for president.
Mayor Sara filed her COC for reelection as Davao mayor earlier this month. Roque didn’t file a COC, but he may still substitute for a senatorial candidate.
Meanwhile, the People’s Reform Party (PRP) disclosed Friday that Roque had been counted as a senatorial candidate of the political party formed by the late Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago.
