Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez on COC filing: “proceeded smoothly”
On Friday, Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesperson James Jimenez said that the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) for those running in the 2022 national elections has “proceeded smoothly”.
In a short press briefing three hours into the COC filing, Jimenez said that the filing has “proceeded smoothly” so far and compliance with health protocols was good.
“So far the filing has proceeded smoothly… For the most part, compliance with health protocols is good,” Jimenez said.
The Comelec spokesperson also said that there were some instances when the poll officers have to remind the people in order to maintain proper distancing amidst the pandemic, but added that most of the individuals at the venue were compliant with other health standards imposed by the government.

GMA News Online reported that the poll body has required everyone, including the media, to present a negative COVID-19 test result valid for 24 hours before they’re allowed to enter the COC filing area.
“People have been very good about complying about the antigen test, about face masks and face shields, and the social distancing,” Jimenez said.
The filing of certificates of candidacy for national posts was scaled down this year because of the pandemic and was held at the Harbor Garden Tent inside the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila compound.
As of this writing, 6 aspirants for president, 2 for vice president, 9 for senator, and 11 for party-list have filed their certificates of candidacy.
Meanwhile, poll commissioner Rowena Guanzon told Teleradyo that aspirants for national positions should limit their companions when filing their certificates of candidacy in order to ensure that health protocols were followed.
