COMELEC Spokesperson James Jimenez said in his tweet that Robredo has not been disqualified from the 2022 polls, adding that videos and articles that implied or suggested otherwise were “#fakenews”.

Jimenez also said that COMELEC’s reminders on prohibited sources of funding applied to “all would-be candidates”.

Pare-pareho silang lahat na walang violation dahil hindi pa naman sila official candidates,” Jimenez said in a follow-up tweet Sunday.

Jimenez made the remark after rumors of Leni Robredo’s disqualification surfaced online.

COMELEC Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said in a tweet Wednesday that foreigners can’t donate or contribute to the campaign of any Filipino candidate.

This, after a volunteer-run site launched a crowdfunding activity wherein supporters may conveniently donate PHP 50 up to PHP 20,000 to Leni Robredo’s campaign war chest. The said page relied on the donor’s good faith about his or her Filipino citizenship.

As stated in the Omnibus Election Code, it’s “unlawful for any person to solicit or receive any contribution” from foreign corporations and foreigners.

Robredo was endorsed by 1Sambayan, Akbayan party-list, and different other groups as their presidential candidate prior to her announcement of her candidacy.

She served as Camarines Sur representative before she was elected vice president in 2016.
