Sen. Bato dela Rosa Speaks on Filing Candidacy for President
BATO DELA ROSA – The Senator revealed that he was told to file his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) two (2) hours before the deadline.
October 8, 2021 was set by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) as the deadline of the filing of candidacy for those who wanted to run for public office in May 2022. Several incumbent politicians filed their Certificates of Candidacy (COCs).
Many incumbent politicians are running for president in the next election. One of those who filed his COC for president was Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.
Undeniably, many people were surprised by the move of the former Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) when he filed his COC for president. His filing came on the last day of the period set by COMELEC.
Sen. Bato dela Rosa was the presidential bet of the ruling PDP-Laban party Cusi wing. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the former PNP Chief claimed that he was the second choice of his party.
According to Sen. dela Rosa, Energy Sec. Alfonso Cusi called him at 3 o’clock in the afternoon telling him to go to Sofitel to file his COC. It was the last day of the filing of COC then and it will end at 5:00 p.m.
Dela Rosa expressed that Cusi told him that there is no other person that their party believe to have the capacity to continue the legacy of Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. According to him, he gave his head up but warned that he might be stuck in the traffic on his way to Sofitel.
“Binilisan ko, pumunta ako doon. Iyon na, ginawa namin ‘yong COC at nag-file,” he said.
Despite Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte previously stressing that she will take her last term as a city mayor, the unexpected filing of Sen. Bato dela Rosa of his candidacy for president sparked speculations that he will be replaced by the presidential daughter.
To the former PNP Chief, it would be better in case that happens. More updates may be posted soon.
