1Sambayan believed that VP Robredo will make her big decision.
1SAMBAYAN — The opposition coalition believed that Vice President Leni Robredo will make an announcement to join the presidential race before October 8, stressing that its endorsement was a “major factor” to her decision.
In an interview on Manila Bulletin, former education secretary Bro. Armin Luistro asked the public for patience as the Vice President continued to mull her decision on whether or not to run for president in the 2022 elections.
“After all, ilang tulog na lang naman,” Luistro said when asked about the wait on Robredo’s decision.
Luistro, who was also one of the convenors of 1Sambayan, said that 1Sambayan was hopeful and confident that their endorsement of her will be a “major factor” in her decision.
1Sambayan endorsed Robredo for president last September 30 despite her insistence to continue unity talks with other anti-administration personalities running in the 2022 elections.
Robredo was in her hometown of Bicol when the coalition made the announcement.

Robredo’s camp confirmed that she transferred her voter registration from Naga City to Magarao, Camarines Sur.
This fueled speculations that Robredo might run for a local post because transferring her voter registration to Magarao town made her eligible to run for governor of the province.
According to Luistro, “it’s a judgment call” for the coalition to endorse the Vice President despite her focus on unifying the pro-democracy candidates.
Meanwhile, retired Supreme Court (SC) Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio said that unity talks will continue despite the endorsement.
Carpio, who was also the lead convenor of 1Sambayan, said that on the “very remote possibility” that the Vice President will reject the nomination, the coalition will need to reconvene again.
Robredo was adamant that only a united opposition can defeat the Marcoses and Dutertes in 2022, but the talks have faltered as both Senator Manny Pacquiao and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno have announced their respective presidential bids.
