Vice President Leni Robredo said that she wasn’t giving up on a united opposition ticket.
On Friday, Vice President Leni Robredo said that she remained committed to forming a united opposition ticket in order to defeat the Duterte administration bets in the upcoming 2022 elections, saying that what should happen would happen.
In her statement, Robredo said that she only had one thing in mind when it comes to elections — to end governance rooted in poverty, suffering, and death.
According to her, she wasn’t the faint-hearted type even if the odds were stacked against her.
“Naririnig ko rin ‘yung sinasabi ng iba. Kesyo pagod na raw ako. Natatakot daw akong matalo. Kinakabahan daw ako na dehado tayo sa resources at makinarya, na baka hindi natin kayanin ang kampanya. Tanungin ko nga kayo ngayon: Mukha ba akong pagod? Mukha ba akong natatakot? Mukha ba akong kinakabahan?” Robredo asked.
The Vice President then thanked her supporters for understanding, trust, and love for the country.

Robredo’s statement came as her supporters encouraged her to pursue a 2022 presidential bid given that Senator Manny Pacquiao and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno had declared their respective 2022 presidential bids.
GMA News Online reported that the filing of candidacies was scheduled from October 1 to 8.
Meanwhile, Robredo said in an interview with Radyo Katipunan last September 24 that she’s prepared to face backlash if she dropped out of the presidential race in 2022, but only if particular demands were met and would be the best thing for the Philippines.
According to the Vice President, she expected widespread scrutiny from those who wanted her to run but it wasn’t a big concern if backing out will mean putting an end to tyrannical leadership practices.
“Ito makaka-attest ‘yong mga kausap ko, parati ko nang sinabing sinasabi na kapag nag-give way ako sigurado ako na mumurahin ako ng ibang tao, siguradong ‘yong ibang supporters ko magagalit sa akin. Siguradong maraming magtatampo, sasama ‘yong loob, pero ‘yong para sa akin ready nga akong i-take ‘yon lahat,” Robredo said.
