The outpouring of support for Robredo over the past few weeks didn’t fall on deaf ears as Vice Presidential Spokesperson Barry Gutierrez on Thursday said that she will consider those when she soon made her decision about the 2022 elections.

According to Gutierrez, they’re thankful for the volunteer groups that came out to support Robredo and they’re hoping that she’ll let them know this September if she intended to run as president.

During an interview with One PH, Gutierrez said that more than 200 groups in the past week came out to call on Robredo to run and the Vice President will listen to them and will consider that in her decision.

Gutierrez also argued that the Vice President had never sought the positions she found herself in, but rather that she listened to the public’s clamor for her to run.

He shared that Robredo didn’t have an “ambition” to run as a congresswoman last 2013 nor as vice president last 2016, adding that he’s sure that the Vice President had no dreams to become president.

Pero sa pagkakakilala ko kay VP Leni, siya rin ay isang tao na hindi tumatalikod sa tungkulin. Hindi tumatalikod sa panawagan ng bayan,” Gutierrez said.

Over the past weeks, different volunteer groups were launched in order to express their support for Robredo’s possible presidential bid.

Some of those groups were the following: Lawyers for Leni, Health Workers for Leni, Teachers for Leni, BPO Employees for Leni, OFWs for Leni, LGBTQIA+ for Leni, and various regional-based groups.

Manila Bulletin reported that more than 200 volunteer groups signed a manifesto calling on Robredo to seek the country’s highest post.

Election lawyer Romulo Macalintal and human rights lawyer Chel Diokno, both of whom ran as senators under Robredo’s Liberal Party (LP) last 2019, also joined the call for Robredo to run.

Based on the report, the support came despite Robredo’s dismal numbers in surveys that were being led by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.

According to Robredo, she’s in the process of deciding whether to run or not for president next year, but her focus remained to be on her office’s pandemic programs.

Gutierrez said that Robredo personally handled their Bayanihan E-Konsulta initiative, which was a free medical teleconsult facility run by her office’s medical and non-medical volunteers.
