Vice Pres. Leni Robredo Speaks on Election 2022
ROBREDO – Philippine Vice President Leni Robredo is willing to give way if needed as she clarified her goal in the upcoming 2022 Election.
As the filing of candidacy period draws near, some incumbent politicians have already announced the position they are planning to run for in the Election 2022.
President Rodrigo Roa Duterte accepted the nomination of his party, the PDP-Laban Cusi wing, for vice president. Previously, he expressed his desire to retire from politics after his term as president ends and to go home to Davao City.
However, his statement only encouraged his party mates even more to call for him to reconsider his decision. The 76-year-old President recently signed the official document confirming his vice presidential bid in 2022.
As for the outgoing Vice Pres. Leni Robredo, she has yet to announce her political plan in the Election 2022. Many are calling for her to run for president in the next political race.
Based on a report on GMA News, Vice Pres. Robredo is ready to give way for the best interest of the country if it is needed. She clarified her goal which is unity to prevent “Marcos” from returning to power and the current leadership to stop.
“Hindi ako kakandidato to satisfy my supporters [alone]. Kakandidato ako if that is for the best interest of the country. Dapat hindi makabalik si Marcos at hindi magpatuloy ang ganitong klaseng pamumuno. Klaro ‘yun,” she said.
According to Vice Pres. Robredo, she is sure that she will receive backlash from some of her supporters if she will not run for president in 2022. She affirmed that she is ready for it in case she needs to give way. According to her, she knows that some of her supporters may get mad at her or will be disappointed and she might earn backlash but she tags it as a personal thing that she can handle.
As of this writing, the Vice President has yet to announce whether or not she will run for the presidency in 2022. She assured that she knows the deadline and she has faith that what is meant to happen will happen.
