PNPA cadet passes away after being punched in the stomach
PNPA – A cadet of the Philippine National Police Academy passed away after he was allegedly punched five (5) times in the stomach by his upperclassman.
The victim was identified by Silang Police as Cadet Third Class George Karl Magsayo, a 21-year-old resident of Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.
The incident took place at around 5:40 p.m. on Thursday, September 23 when he and a companion went inside the room of the suspect identified as Cadet Second Class Steve Ceasar Maingat.
The suspect warned the victim and his companion but a few moments later, the suspect punched the victim at least five times, hitting his stomach.
The PNPA cadet lost consciousness and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, the PNPA administration issued a statement following the unfortunate death of Magsayo.
According to PNPA, an extensive investigation is being conducted to find out the truth about what has transpired that led to his death.
His body has been subjected to an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
The PNPA insists that it follows the “No To Hazing Policy” and values life and human rights, which are taught to cadets and personnel.
Hazing is any activity expected of someone joining or participating in a group that humiliates, degrades, abuses, or endangers them, regardless of a person’s willingness to participate.
PNP chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar also ordered an investigation into the death of the PNPA cadet.
He said that the suspect is under the custody of Silang Municipal Police Station. He assured that the upperclassman would face a corresponding case to be filed against him.
