Pacquiao: “Sa tingin ko hindi naman naresolba ang pandemya mas lalo pang lumala.”
MANNY PACQUIAO – The boxing champ/senator described the government’s COVID-19 pandemic response as “mismanaged.”
The athlete-turned-politician made the statement following the rant of presidential spokesperson Harry Roque against a doctor’s group during a Zoom meeting of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.
Pacquiao thinks that the pandemic has yet to be resolved since cases continue to rise.
He stressed that the government’s COVID-19 pandemic response is “mismanaged.”
According to Pacquiao, the government should focus on “massive vaccination.” He believes that vaccination is one of the reasons why other countries were able to return to normal.
Last week, a video clip retrieved by Inquirer.net wherein presidential spokesperson Harry Roque can be seen castigating a group of doctors in the midst of the IATF’s Zoom meeting made a buzz online.
During the meeting, the Philippine College of Physicians allegedly blocked the IATF’s plan to ease the quarantine restrictions in Metro Manila because COVID cases are still high.
Then, the presidential spokesman responded in a hostile tone with his finger pointing at the screen.
Roque is said to be stubborn because he wants to convey to the group that they should also see what the government is doing to fight the virus.
“We employed the ‘entire government approach’ thinking about economic ramifications, thinking about the people (who) will go hungry. It does not mean that we care any less. And let me point out to everyone, this group, they have never said anything good about the government response,” he said.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III allegedly tried to calm him down but the spokesperson went on with his rant.
Roque has since apologized for getting “emotional” during the said meeting with IATF-MEID.
