Kabayan party-list Rep. Ron Salo, author of House Bill 7042 said that the proposal will only serve as an option to the bride and groom.

As per the proposal, the bride and groom must be together in one place while the solemnizing officer and those who will witness the wedding (who might be in another place) must be present in the same virtual meeting.

The online wedding bill is supported by Bishop Reuben Abante, of Lighthouse Bible Baptist Church and Ministries and Family law expert Prof. Katrina Legarda.

According to Abante, he wants to fulfill his duty of officiating a wedding, but with the pandemic, traveling has been limited.

If it becomes a law, it will be enforced even after the pandemic is over.

“I am convinced that the new normal on the use of modern technologies in our hearings and meetings will not anymore change even when the pandemic ends. As such, this measure considers the use of these technological advances as part of our daily life, and as part of the options that may be considered by our couples in their marriage ceremony,” he said.

Due to the pandemic, people’s movements are being limited.

Numerous events have been canceled, if not, given the number to pursue but with a limited number of attendees such as weddings, birthdays, and other social gatherings.

But such policies are being imposed only in areas where strict lockdown or community quarantine is being imposed.

Online wedding is not new today. In fact, early this year, actress Beth Tamayo tied the knot with her American partner Adam Hutchinson via an online wedding.
