60th edition of Miss International has been canceled
Miss International Organization announced that the 60th edition of Miss International has been canceled due to the continuous increase of COVID-19 cases in Tokyo, Japan.
Chairperson of the International Cultural Association Akemi Shimomura announced the sad news via the official website of the said pageant body.
In a statement, Miss International Organization said: “We would like to express our deepest regret especially to the participants from all over the world, and to all those who have been supporting our event every year. We humbly ask for your understanding in light of this unusual circumstance which is beyond our control.”
Due to its cancellation, the highly anticipated pageant has been moved to 2022.
Hannah Arnol of Masbate would have been this year’s Philippine candidate for the 60th edition of Miss International.
The Philippines is the lone South East Asian country to have secured the most number of Miss International crowns.
It was in 1970 when Aurora Pijuan was crowned followed by Melanie Marquez in 1979, Precious Lara Quigaman in 2005, Bea Rose Santiago in 2013, and Kylie Verzosa in 2016.
For now, the pageant organization will continue its campaign “Cheer All Women.”
Bint Sireethorn of Thailand is the reigning titleholder of Miss International.
This is the second time that the pageant has been canceled.
It was supposed to be held on October 21, 2020, in Tokyo Dome City Hall, Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan, it was postponed.
On January 29, 2021, the organization announced that the coronation night would be rescheduled for November 2021 in Pacifico Yokohama, Japan due to the 2020 Summer Olympics that ran from July to August 2021.
