Harry Roque To President Duterte: “Huwag mo na sitahin ang katabaan”.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque had apparently disagreed with President Rodrigo Duterte on the need to publicly talk about the “weighty” issue.
During the Presidential press briefing on Wednesday, Roque agreed with a journalist — albeit lightheartedly — that it’s unnecessary for President Duterte to bring up Senator Richard Gordon’s weight during the President’s latest “Talk to the People” public address.
“I may be spokesperson but I agree. Mr. President, huwag mo na sitahin ang katabaan dahil, mea culpa, mataba rin ako,” Roque said before bursting in laughter.
Roque also said that he will try to lose weight, adding that he had been trying to lose weight but the gyms were closed and they prohibited exercising when it’s time to exercise.
He also admitted that it’s hard for him to get back to exercising but he will try to lose weight.
“Mea culpa, Mr. President. Magpapapayat na rin po ako. Nagpapapayat naman ako kaya lang sarado po ang mga gym, kaya wala. Tapos nung panahon pong mag-eexercise, pati exercise pinagbawalan. Ngayon ang hirap na pong bumalik sa exercise. Pero susubukan ko po. Magpapapayat din po ako,” Roque said.

Roque’s comment came after President Duterte poked fun at least twice at Gordon’s weight during Monday night’s Talk to the People address.
At that time, President Duterte sarcastically described the senator as a “talkathon” champion who supposedly hogged all the airtime of the televised committee hearings that the latter lead.
The President also accused Gordon of being a “sinophobe” and claimed that the senator was allegedly mad at the Chinese.
“Ang advice ko sa iyo magpapayat ka muna para medyo… Nalilipong ako ‘pag nakikita kita,” President Duterte said of Gordon, whom he assailed for the particular way that he conducted his hearings.
The Senate panel had been investigating the alleged procurement of overpriced medical supplies last year amidst the raging pandemic — including personal protective equipment (PPE).
