Andanar: PCOO To Continue Duterte Coverage Amidst Possible VP Run In 2022 Elections

The PCOO will continue Duterte coverage amidst possible VP run in the 2022 elections, according to Andanar.

On Tuesday, PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar said that the Presidential Communications Operations Office will continue its coverage of President Rodrigo Duterte even amidst his possible vice-presidential run in the 2022 elections.

The PCOO will continue Duterte coverage amidst possible VP run in the 2022 elections, according to Andanar.

During the budget deliberations for the 2022 budget of the PCOO, Andanar said that they will continue to exercise their mandate to cover President Duterte until the end of his term.

If that (President Duterte running for vice president) happens, I believe it is the first time that a President is running for VP but we have a mandate also to cover the president. I guess that’s the equity of the incumbent,” Andanar said.

Andanar made the remark as Bayan Muna Representative Carlos Zarate noted that the PCOO will be used as a “propaganda arm” for President Duterte who had accepted his endorsement as the vice-presidential candidate of PDP-Laban.

It was Zarate who raised the said issue as he cited the airing the meeting of PDP-Laban in the Presidential Broadcast Staff Radio Television Malacañang (RTVM) and People’s Television Network (PTV) back in July. The said event was attended by President Duterte.

Zarate asked for the role of the Presidential Communications Operations Office once President Duterte pushed through with his plan to seek the vice presidency, given that the said agency was the communications arm of the President.

At least it’s very clear that the PCOO, true to its mandate, will give advantage to the President if he pursues his political plans in 2022 elections,” Zarate said after hearing Andanar’s response.
