KITCHIE BENEDICTO – The former television executive who also discovered singer Rhap Salazar passed away on Wednesday night, August 4.

Kitchie died at her home in Pasig City. She’s 74 years old.

Her nephew, actor and former Manila City councilor Robert Ortega, confirmed her death.

In a farewell message, he thanked his aunt for supporting his acting career.

“Rest in Peace my dearest Ninang Kitchie. You will forever be in our hearts. You will be missed. Truly a beautiful woman inside and out. I love you Ninang,” he said.

The cremation of Kitchie’s remains took place on Thursday, August 5.

Kitchie Benedicto has made a significant contribution to the TV industry.

She was the producer of popular programs in the ’70s such as Superstar, the musical-variety show of Nora Aunor; the sitcom John En Marsha starring Dolphy and Nida Blanca; and the kiddie gag show Kaluskos Musmos which aired on RPN-9, the leading TV network in the ’70s up to ’80s.

Her program also includes Vilma Santos’ weekly musical show Vilma in Person (V.I.P.); and the sitcom 2+2 along with Vic Sotto, Dina Bonnevie, Maricel Soriano, and Herbert Bautista which aired on the former BBC-2.

She was also the president and CEO of media production company KB Entertainment Unlimited, Inc.

Many were saddened by the passing of the TV executive and one of those mourning the loss of Kitchie is no less than singer Rhap Salazar.

Rhap was discovered by Kitchie Benedicto twelve years ago who encouraged him to join the 13th World Championships of Performing Arts in the US.

He won both the Junior Grand Champion Performer of the World and the Junior Grand Champion Solo Vocalist of the World.

Then, he appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show at the age of 12.

His singing career actually began when he joined the Little Big Star and eventually landed on acting.
