PDP-Laban will nominate Senator Go and President Duterte unless alliance with HNP happened, according to Nograles.
On Wednesday, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said that PDP-Laban will nominate Senator Bong Go in tandem with President Rodrigo Duterte in the upcoming elections unless an alliance was formed with Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), in which case the plan could change.
According to Nograles, PDP-Laban will nominate Senator Bong Go and President Duterte as president and vice president, respectively, in the 2022 elections since the presidential daughter was part of a different political party.
Nograles, who was also the PDP-Laban executive vice president, added that the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan could form an alliance with any political party “in the realm of possibilities”.
“Mayor Sara belongs to a different political party. So that being the case, there has to be some sort of agreement or alliance perhaps between PDP-Laban and the party of Mayor Sara in that eventuality,” Nograles said when asked about the possibility of endorsing Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.
Nograles also said that everything else was “purely hypothetical and speculative” about the decision of PDP-Laban with regards to other political parties’ possible contenders.

For the meantime, Nograles said that the party will nominate the Go-Duterte tandem in the upcoming national convention on September 8, 2021.
However, Nograles told CNN Philippines’ The Source that President Duterte was willing to give way to his daughter in the upcoming elections since he wasn’t in favor of a Duterte-Duterte tandem himself.
In a separate interview, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque cited President Duterte as saying that he and Senator Go will back out of the picture if Mayor Sara will pursue a presidential bid.
“Should Sara decide to run, Bong Go is out. For my part, dahil delicadeza, hindi po puwede dalawa kami diyan, if she runs, out na rin ako,’ so yun po ang sinabi niya,” said Roque, quoting President Duterte.
Earlier this month, PDP-Laban officially endorsed the Go-Duterte tandem.
