Palace to people unwilling to get vaccinated vs COVID-19: “Bahala na si COVID-19 sa kanila”
“Bahala na si COVID-19 sa kanila” — On Monday, Malacañang said that COVID-19 will take care of people who were unwilling to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
When asked if the Philippine government was eyeing programs to convince people to get vaccinated against the coronavirus disease, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said during his regular press briefing that COVID-19 will take of them since they didn’t want to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
Roque’s comments came four days after some people in the National Capital Region (NCR) swarmed COVID-19 vaccination sites.
President Rodrigo Duterte made a comment last July 28 that police and barangay officials will be deployed in order to prevent unvaccinated people from going out because they’re walking spreaders. However, Roque stressed that such chaos wasn’t President Duterte’s fault.
Roque explained that the President’s address was last July 28 and the incident happened last August 5, adding that the President wasn’t wrong in what he said.
He also said that the bottom line was that it was the job of the local government units (LGUs) to implement an orderly and humane vaccination program and not to pin the blame on the President.

The Philippine government was eyeing to inoculate 76.3 million by the end of the year in order to achieve herd immunity against COVID-19. However, data presented by Roque on Monday showed that only 11.3 million Filipinos had been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 so far.
Meanwhile, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III supported the vaccination of minors against the coronavirus disease, provided that there were enough vaccine supplies in the Philippines.
Duque on Monday said that the matter was being studied by the Vaccine Expert Panel (VEP) and the All Experts Group of the Department of Health (DOH).
