Roque on ECQ in Metro Manila: “Hindi ko po alam kung mayroon tayong ayudang maibibigay.”

Presidential spokesman Harry Roque opposed the possible implementation of a two-week enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila because he said the government no longer has a budget to aid the residents who will be affected.

This was after several Metro Manila mayors said that they are in favor to implement a strict lockdown due to the COVID spike and spread of the Delta COVID variant.

According to a report, the mayors also want the government to provide assistance to families affected by strict community quarantine.

“Hindi basta-basta puwede mag-ECQ sa Metro Manila. Hindi ko po alam kung mayroon tayong ayudang maibibigay,” he said.

“Sixty percent of our GDP (gross domestic product) is from NCR Plus 8. Under a complete lockdown, people will lose jobs. Habang tayo ay nasa moderate risk, hayaan po muna natin magtrabaho ang ating mga kababayan,” he added.

On Wednesday, President Rodrigo Duterte approved the recommendation of the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases to extend the GCQ with heightened restrictions in Meto Manila from August 1 to 15.

  1. For me, i am not in favor to implement such ECQ nationwide specially in metro manila paano na kaming mahihirap saan kami kukuha ng ipapakain namin sa aming pamilya. Sana payagan na ninyo nalang magtrabaho mga tao buti kung bigyan nio kami ng budget for our food in two weeks. Bigyan nio ang mga tao ng ayuda sa halagang 8,000 or 6,500 magkakasiya ba yan sana pagisipan nio
