Her son Ricky Avanceña confirmed her death.

“Mom passed peacefully as her children surrounded her, reading psalms from the bible and praying the rosary. An agent of light, of all things good and just, promoter and advocate of human rights, equality, social justice, land reform and freedom from oppression and poverty, has passed on to eternity.”

Her nephew Manolo Quezon III also released a message:

“She passed away surrounded by her children, at home, achieving one of the devoutest wishes of the faithful—a true Christian death, at peace with her Maker and the world.”

Nini was born on April 9, 1921, and got married to Felipe Buencamino in 1947.

But she was widowed early when her husband, mother Doña Aurora, and sister Maria Aurora were killed in the Hukbalahap ambush on April 28, 1949, in Bongabon, Nueva Ecija.

Nini remarried Alberto Avanceña in 1951. One of their children was Ben, the husband of former actress Imelda Ilanan, the mother of actress Maricel Laxa.

Nini was active in promoting human rights, social justice, and peace during her lifetime.

She was also an ardent supporter of the late former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino.
