According to Galvez, bulk of the COVID-19 vaccine doses of the country will be focused on 1,500 barangays nationwide identified as “centers of gravity” of the local pandemic.

In response to President Duterte’s directive to prioritize areas with a spike in COVID-19 cases, we’re increasing the vaccine administration capacity of these areas,” Galvez said in a statement.

He also said that most vulnerable areas for coronavirus surges will also be given priority in COVID-19 vaccine distribution.

In May, the national government identified 9 “focus areas” vulnerable to COVID-19 that were set to get a significant portion of the COVID-19 vaccine doses the country will receive.

Those “focus areas” include Metro Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Laguna, Pampanga, Rizal, Metro Cebu, Batangas, and Metro Davao.

Based on latest data, the national government had received more than 9 million COVID-19 vaccines so far. Some 6 million COVID-19 vaccine doses had been administered, with 1.6 million individuals fully inoculated against the coronavirus disease.
