Palawan has been placed under state of calamity on Wednesday due to the increase in the number of active coronavirus cases.
According to the Provincial Public Information Office, the provincial government can now use its other funds such as trust and quick response funds for responding to COVID-19.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council chief Jerry Alili noted that additional funds will be utilized for food packs, medicines, antigen test kits, personal protective equipment and facilities.
As of June 8, there are 2,035 recorded cases in Palawan of which 659 are active while 33 have died.
Meanwhile, with the rapid increase of coronavirus disease 2019 cases, leaders of different nations are doing their all in order to combat the spread of the deadly virus which started in Wuhan, China in 2019.
COVID-19 is characterized by flu-like symptoms such as fever, difficulty in breathing, cough, and other respiratory problems but a patient may also be positive for the disease even without showing any signs.
Among the safety protocols that everyone must observe are the following; social/physical distancing, using disinfectant from time to time if possible, and wearing masks as well as face shields especially in public places.
