UAE Says Vaccinations vs COVID-19 Will Be Mandatory For People Attending Live Events

The UAE said that vaccinations against COVID-19 will be mandatory for people attending live events.

Vaccinations against COVID-19 will be mandatory for people attending live events from June 6, 2021, according to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

This, as the UAE had pushed a COVID-19 vaccination campaign which had consistently been one of the fastest in the world.

On Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the ministry of health said that the policy applied to all social, cultural, sports, arts exhibition, activities, and events. Based on a report on Rappler, attendees must present a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken at least 48 hours before the said event.

Trade and tourism hub Dubai, one of the seven emirates in the United Arab Emirates, last week said that COVID-19 vaccinations were required to participate in and attend concerts, bars, entertainment activities, sports events, and for weddings up to 100 people.

According to the United Arab Emirates, over 78.11% of the eligible population above 16 years old had been inoculated, and 84.59% of people aged 60 and above, without specifying if this meant two COVID-19 vaccine doses or one COVID-19 vaccine dose.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin decided that Russia will not make COVID-19 vaccines compulsory for its citizens and said that people should see the necessity of vaccination on their own.

Several officials in Russia had proposed making COVID-19 vaccination mandatory, but President Putin said on Wednesday that such a move would be “counterproductive”.

Russian news agency Tass reported that President Putin said during a video conference on the economy that officials had analyzed options including mandatory COVID-19 vaccination for the entire population or for workers in certain sectors who came into contact with large numbers of people.

President Putin also encouraged the public to get vaccinated and stressed that the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine was safe.

I would like to emphasize once again and to appeal to all our citizens: think carefully, keep in mind that the Russian vaccine — the practice has already shown that millions (of people) have used it — is currently the most reliable and the safest. All conditions for vaccination have been created in our country,” President Putin said.
