Harry Roque said that he will debate against Antonio Carpio about the West Philippine Sea.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said he will debate against retired Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio about the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

After challenging Carpio to a debate on the West Philippine Sea on Wednesday, President Rodrigo Duterte had backed out and tapped his spokesperson to debate with the magistrate instead.

In a televised address on Friday, Roque said that President Duterte was designating him to debate with Carpio and he accepted it. According to Roque, it would be a pleasure for him to debate against Carpio and he’ll see him at the designated time and place.

Roque also said that the Philippine Bar Association, which had volunteered to host the event, just needed to name the time and venue of the debate.

To recall, President Duterte challenged Carpio to a debate on the basis that both of them were lawyers. Carpio then accepted President Duterte’s challenge the day after the President issued it.

“Dedebatihin ko kayong dalawa”

Roque also said that he wanted to have a “two versus one” debate, which means he wanted to have a debate against Carpio and former foreign secretary Albert del Rosario.

Spokesperson vs Spokesperson

Roque said that it’s good that he and Carpio would have a debate on the basis that both of them were lawyers and spokespersons.

Patas po ang laban. Spokesperson to Spokesperson,” Roque said.
