President Duterte said in his speech that solidarity among countries was important because a country was only as strong as its weakest link.

According to President Duterte, the Philippines supported all avenues for increased production of COVID-19 therapeutics, COVID-19 diagnostics, and COVID-19 vaccines.

Likewise, the Philippines thanked Japan and other partners in the WHO-led COVAX Facility that have benefitted many developing countries — including the Philippines.

“First, we are only as strong as our weakest link as a country and as a region, and as one global community. This is why we need greater solidarity for collective, coordinated, and comprehensive responses. Inward-looking policies will lead us nowhere. But collective international action can only complement national responses which should be people-centered and holistic,” President Duterte said.

President Duterte made the statement as he virtually addressing the 26th Future of Asia conference organized by Nikkei Inc.
