Ivermectin distributed by Marcoleta and Defensor
IVERMECTIN – Despite stern warnings from the FDA and objections from doctors, Deputy Speaker Rodante Marcoleta and Anak-Kalusugan Partylist Representative Mike Defensor continued to distribute the antiparasitic drug to several residents of Barangay Matandang Balara, Quezon City on Thursday, April 29.
Before giving Ivermectin to those in line, the residents had a consultation with the doctors brought by Defensor and Marcoleta.
Doctors wrote a prescription for the anti-parasitic drug. But unfortunately, they did not put their names and license numbers on the prescriptions.
Reporters questioned the doctors’ failure to put their name and license number on the prescription.
Defensor said: “Isa lang ang pirma nila, hindi naman iba-iba ang pirma. We have Dr. Castillo, Dr. Agbayani, Dr. Quinto, and Dr. Landrito.
“So, at anytime, you check all the yung prescriptions nila, we can identify the doctor,” he added.
Last month, the Food and Drug Administration Philippines (FDA) issued an advisory regarding patronization of the veterinary product Ivermectin.
According to the FDA: “Per FDA Advisory No. 2021-0526 issued on 15 March 2021, the FDA advises the public AGAINST the purchase and use of Ivermectin veterinary products against COVID-19.
“The registered Ivermection veterinary products are only approved for use the prevention of heartworm disease and treatment of internal and external parasites in certain animal species,” it said.
“Ivermectin is NOT APPROVED by the FDA for treatment of any viral infection,” it added.
