In a surprise political development for the residents of Victorias City, Javier Lopez Benitez reportedly announced that he will run as mayor in 2022.
A source, who was at the event, told PNV Media that Javi made an announcement in front of leaders at the family’s vacation house last April 1, 2021.
Javi was the son of Filipino businessman and former congressman Albee Benitez.
The said source shared that incumbent city officials and barangay leaders in the city attended the meeting led by Board Member Jovi Pepillo, who was the ABC president of Victorias City and a concurrent ex- officio member of the Sanggunian Panlalawigan.
Also, the said source shared that actress Sue Ramirez — girlfriend of Javi Benitez — and actor John Lloyd Cruz were also present at the said event.

PNV Media also reported that Javi will run along with Councilor Junb Bantug, an uncle who was on his last term. Incumbent Victorias City Mayor Frederick Palanca was on his last term.
Sources also told PNV Media that the decision to field the younger Benitez arrived after Incumbent Victorias City Mayor Frederick Palanca refused to endorse Vice Mayor Jerry Jover for mayor as Palanca reportedly had his own bet for mayor in 2022.
The said source also shared that that the original plan was for Vice Mayor Jerry Jover to run as mayor in tandem with Councilor Junb Bantug.
As a loyal party man, the said source quoted the vice mayor as saying that he’ll respect the decision of their party “Abanse Asenso Victoriahan”.
