Grab Says “Lugaw is essential.”
Aside from Malacañang, Grab also said that “Lugaw Is Essential” as the ride-hailing and delivery platform offered free delivery by using their code.
According to a transport and food delivery company, food was an essential item and therefore a rice porridge was essential as well.
Last Wednesday, Grab Philippines shared a photo of the dish on social media with the texts: “If food is essential, and lugaw is food, therefore lugaw is essential.”

As seen in the caption on Grab’s post, the company encouraged to give thanks to all Grab riders who continued to deliver essential needs even during the enhanced community quarantine.
“Let’s give thanks to all our Grab riders na tuloy lang sa paghatid ng ating essential needs! Saludo po kami sa inyo, kuyas and ates,” the company said.

Also, the company updated its advisory to include “lugaw” among essentials that could be delivered during the ECQ (enhanced community quarantine) and offered free delivery by using the code “LUGAWISESSENTIAL”.

Grab Philippines’ statement came after a Grab rider was prohibited from delivering “lugaw” to a customer in a certain barangay in Bulacan province. Meanwhile, “Grab” and “#LugawIsEssential” were two of the most trending topics on Twitter as of this writing.
Metro Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Rizal, and Laguna were placed under the enhanced community quarantine until April 4, 2021. President Rodrigo Duterte will decide on Saturday on whether or not to extend the enhanced community quarantine in those areas.
