Facebook Rolls Out New COVID-19 Label About Treatments Without Scientific Proof

Facebook was rolling out its new COVID-19 label about treatments without scientific proof.

Facebook was rolling out its new label about COVID-19 treatments without scientific proof, as it already did with COVID-19 information overall.

With this, it will appear with a message stating “Some unapproved COVID-19 treatments can cause serious harm” when a user posted about a medication that the World Health Organization (WHO) had not approved as a treatment for COVID-19 — which doesn’t exist yet.

Many people spread on the internet and on social media that chloroquine, ivermectin, and other medications could work as a COVID-19 treatment since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

Facebook confirmed to 9to5Mac that starting in the following weeks, those labels will appear for English, French, Spanish, Indonesian, Portuguese, and Arabic speakers all over the world and will link to Facebook’s COVID-19 Information Center.

According to a report on 9to5Mac, those labels will also appear on Instagram as well.

Facebook said that it worked alongside fact-checking agencies so that every time a certain post was marked as fake news, they’re labeled on both Facebook and Instagram and stopped being seen by other users on both social media platforms.

Recently, Facebook started to promoted vaccine information as well as urging users to take the COVID-19 vaccine when it’s available.

A research study showed that social norms can have a “major impact on people’s attitudes and behaviors” when it comes to their health and people were more likely to get a COVID-19 vaccine when they saw many people they trusted were doing it.
