This is after PNP chief General Debold Sinas tested positive for Covid-19 and is now in the quarantine facility.

According to Eleazar, as part of the protocol, he will be replacing Sinas for the meantime as the head of the national police.

“Following the unfortunate incident wherein our Chief PNP, General Debold M. Sinas, tested positive for coronavirus, I was designated as the OIC, PNP as a matter of protocol. As OIC PNP, I will be taking over the affairs of the PNP temporarily and until such time that our Chief PNP fully recovers,” pahayag ni Eleazar.

Meanwhile, Sinas is now in good condition.

Sinas is expected to remain at the isolation facility at the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame in Quezon City.

According to the reports, he underwent RT-PCR on March 6 and March 9, and both results were negative.

PNP doctors said Sinas may have been infected with the virus in the past 24 to 48 hours before he underwent another RT-PCR on Thursday morning.

On Wednesday, March 10, Sinas led the oath-taking and donning of ranks ceremonies for newly promoted police officers held at the PNP Multi-Purpose Center in Camp Crame.
