DOH Considers Sanctions vs Gov’t Execs Who Got COVID-19 Shots While Outside Prioritization List

The DOH was considering possible sanctions against government officials who got COVID-19 shots while not on the prioritization list.

The Department of Health (DOH) was considering possible sanctions against government officials who got vaccinated against COVID-19 while not on the prioritization list as the supply of COVID-19 vaccine doses in the Philippines remained limited.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a public press briefing that they’re studying sanctions such as possible administrative cases against erring government officials as health workers were supposed to be a priority for vaccination.

Pinaguusapan po ‘yan ngayon so maaaring administrative cases, pinag-uusapan ang possible sanctions at possible violations based on our existing policies,” Vergeire said, without mentioning any government official.

With the arrival of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses, Vergeire warned that the COVID-19 vaccine doses must be allotted to frontline health workers, following COVAX guidelines, to prevent “jeopardizing” the agreement set between the Philippines and the COVAX.

Vergeire then appealed to the public to allow the hospitals and health workers to receive the vaccines.

In a report on ABS-CBN News, around 13,000 health workers in the country had been vaccinated as of Friday. According to Vergeire, there were an estimated 1.8 million health workers in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. announced that the second batch of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines will arrive in the Philippines on Sunday at 7:00 pm.
