Sinovac May Arrive On Sunday Says Roque, Roll-out On Monday

SINOVAC ROLL-OUT ON MONDAY – Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that China’s Sinovac vaccine may arrive this Sunday.

Following delays, Roque said that despite the scarcity of supplies, Sinovac would arrive in the country this Sunday. During a press conference, Roque said:

Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH), along with the National Task Force against COVID-19, they need to iron-out the details of the vaccine roll-out. For now, the Malacañang assures that the vaccines are expected to arrive this weekend.

Two doses of the vaccine are required for each individual for it to be effective against COVID-19. Currently, the expected number of vaccines to arrive in the Philippines is 600,000 doses. This would be enough to inoculate 300,000 people.

According to an article from Philstar, the government would prioritize 250,000 health care workers and 50,000 soldiers.

However, issues were raised when the Food and Drug Administration said they didn’t recommend the CoronaVac vaccine from Sinovac due to its varying efficacy levels. But, as per the article, the Palace said:

Despite the [emergency use authorization] issued by the FDA, inilinaw po ‘yan ni Dr. Domingo na hindi po ipinagbabawal na bigay ito sa health professionals“.

Still, the Palace emphasized that nobody will be forced to get inoculated with the vaccine. Furthermore, those health workers who opt to get another vaccine brand would still be given priority.
