Palace spokesperson Harry Roque said that China’s Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine would arrive in the country on Sunday. In an online briefing, Roque told reporters that government officials were expected to personally welcome the arrival of the vaccines.

Roque also said that the Philippine government only needed one day to prepare for the rollout of the said vaccine after it arrived in the country.

President Rodrigo Duterte had wanted to be present in the welcoming ceremony for the arrival of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines, but his attendance wasn’t yet confirmed as of this writing.

Earlier, authorities said that China would donate 600,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses through Sinovac, which received its emergency use authorization (EUA) in the Philippines this week.

Sinovac Biotech General Manager Helen Yang previously said that the first delivery involved 600,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses, all of which were donated.

In a report on Rappler, those vaccines would be the country’s very first batch of COVID-19 vaccines, but the country lagged behind some of its Southeast Asian neighbors like Malaysia and Indonesia, who had kickstarted their vaccination drives.
