Palace: PH To Get COVID-19 Vaccine Doses From Sinovac On February 23, 2021

The Philippines would get COVID-19 vaccine doses from China’s Sinovac Biotech on February 23, 2021, according to Malacañang.

Malacañang on Thursday said that the Philippines would get an initial batch of COVID-19 vaccine doses from China’s Sinovac Biotech on February 23, 2021.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said at a press briefing that 600,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses from Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac Biotech were set to arrive in the country on February 23, 2021.

Of these vaccine doses, 100,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses donated by the Chinese government to the Department of National Defense.

Roque also told reporters that there’s no tentative arrival date yet for a separate, first batch of COVID-19 vaccines from the COVAX Facility.

Meanwhile, Sinovac Biotech has yet to be issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) by the Philippines’ Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a requirement before a vaccine can be legally administered in the Philippines.

Aside from this, Roque said that the Food and Drug Administration issued a compassionate use license for 10,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses from Sinopharm based on the application of the Presidential Security Group (PSG).

According to the Department of Health, the compassionate special permit given by the Food and Drug Administration to the Presidential Security Group allowed them to access 10,000 Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines only for future use and one-time importation.
