Here’s the message of President Duterte on EDSA Revolution 35th Anniversary
President Rodrigo Duterte gave a message amid the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution.
Duterte urged Filipinos to set aside diversity so that the nation can establish a “legacy” that will be left for future generations.
He also said that the independence achieved in February 1986 should be a reminder so that everyone can continue to guard democracy in the country.
“As we contemplate the relevance of this occasion, let us proceed with renewed hope and optimism towards the realization of our shared aspirations for our nation,” he said.
“May this serve as a constant reminder for all of us to remain vigilant in safeguarding our democratic institutions, preserving our values, and upholding our rights as Filipinos,” he added.
“Guided by the spirit of EDSA, let us set aside our differences and work together in building a legacy that we can proudly leave behind for future generations of Filipinos,” he noted.
Meanwhile, the People Power Revolution (also known as the EDSA Revolution and the Philippine Revolution of 1986) was a series of popular demonstrations in the Philippines that began in 1983 and culminated in 1986 with the overthrow of then-President Ferdinand Marcos.
