Sister Pingping was remembered as one of the nuns who prayed the rosary in front of soldiers and tanks during the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.

Her congregation — the Daughters of Saint Paul — confirmed Sister Pingping’s death in a Facebook post last December 23, announcing that she died last December 22 after her long bout with cancer.

Sister Rose Agtarap said in a Facebook post shared by the Daughters of Saint Paul Facebook page.

According to the news service of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), Sister Pingping was 63 years old.

In a Catholic News Service article last February 2016, Sister Pingping recalled her experience during the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution that toppled former President Ferdinand Marcos.

Sister Pingping and Sister Teresita Burias were photographed praying the rosary while facing soldiers and tanks.

As she explained her reason why the risk was worth it, Sister Pingping told the Catholic News Service that she believed heavily that God was there as if the seed of democracy was being planted.
