In a report on Gizguide, the screen time section in Apple’s security settings was designed to restrict access to adult sites and it has three options: allowed websites only, limit adult websites, and unrestricted access.
But then, an Apple user raised concern about the parameters of the said restriction.

Steven Shen tweeted that it stopped the users from googling the keyword “Asian” in the search bar. This means that the phrases such as Asian hairstyle, Asian cuisine, or even Asian countries can no longer be used.
Shen also posted an image on Twitter to show the search result with the word “Asian” and it reads: “You cannot browse this page at ‘google.co.uk’ because it is restricted.”
However, when the search was narrowed down to “Japanese cities” or ‘Indian food’, the browser can produce an expected list of results. Due to this very strange search restriction, Shen kept on criticizing Apple.

Shen then told the Independent that he didn’t think it was intentionally done, but encouraged Apple to fix the said problem quickly.
“I think it’s unlikely someone intentionally hard coded this. Probably the result of AI. Similar to how facial recognition has trouble working on people with darker skin tones. Apple’s bug tracking is perhaps quite notorious in the Apple developer community. Most of the feedback we filed seemingly go into a blackhole. I wish they fixed it sooner,” Shen said.
Gizguide also reported that there were assumptions that this was the result of AI since it’s not likely that someone from the company had coded this, but Apple should have fixed the said issue sooner since there were organizations that believed that this can be a form of racism and sexism.
