PRC To Start Saliva Tests For COVID-19 In Bacolod City On February 2

PRC would start offering saliva tests for COVID-19 in Bacolod City on February 2, 2021.

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) would start offering saliva tests for COVID-19 in Bacolod City starting Tuesday, February 2, 2021.

Accoding to PRC Governor Jay Jalandoni, Bacolod could conduct 1,440 reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests a day using saliva samples.

He added that they had two machines that can each conduct 90 RT-PCR tests every three hours.

Based on a report on Inquirer, training of PRC personnel for the saliva tests for COVID-19 will be held on Monday and the actual testing will begin the next day.

As per the report, a saliva test for COVID-19 would cost PHP 2,000, which was cheaper compared to a nasal swab test that cost PHP 3,800.

Meanwhile, the PRC Bacolod would also assist in the measles, Rubella, and polio vaccination from February 1-28, 2021. According to Jalandoni, they would deploy teams to selected barangays.

Jalandoni also said that the said project was supported by health services of the PRC national headquarters, International Committee of the Red Cross, and American Red Cross.

Jalandoni’s statement came after the Philippine Red Cross initially started offering COVID-19 testing using saliva samples at PRC molecular laboratories in Mandaluyong near Pinatubo St. and in the Port Area in Manila.
