The Optical Media Board (OMB) has filed a complaint against 18 people over piracy of Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2020 entries.
On Tuesday, January 5, OMB filed complaints against 15 people before the Department of Justice for allegedly illegal downloading and distribution of movies that were part of the MMFF 2020.
They are facing complaints in connection with the violation of the Intellectual Property Code (RA 8293) and Optical Media Act (Optical Media Act).
Atty. Cyrus Valenzuela, the OMB’s legal counsel told Rappler.com via a text message that three individuals have been arrested on Monday, January 4, following two separate operations in Manila and Quezon City.
They are also facing charges for the violation of the Intellectual Property Code and Optical Media Act.
“Huwag po nating tangkilin ang pamimirata. Suportahan natin ang mga pelikulang Pilipino. Maganda ang ganitong teknolohiya para sa mas malawak na pagpapalabas ng mga pelikula ngunit mabilis din ang pagpirata sa mga ito. Ang OMB ay hindi magpapahinga, patuloy kaming mag-iikot at magbabantay,” OMB chair and lawyer Christian B. Natividad said.
