Globe Telecom’s 5G network now covered 80 percent of Metro Manila

Globe Telecom had cemented its position in the local 5G space in the Philippines as its 5G network now covered 80 percent of Metro Manila.

According to Globe, the company had already upgraded 884 locations in Metro Manila, noting Bonifacio Global City, Makati, and Ortigas Commercial Business Districts (CBDs) were nearing completion with coverage of 97%, 95%, and 97%, respectively.

Globe also said that Manila, San Juan, Pateros, Makati, Mandaluyong, Caloocan, Marikina, Pasig, and Quezon City were among the nine cities with the most 5G outdoor coverage.

According to Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu, they continued to invest on their network so their customers could get to experience the many promises and opportunities of the most advanced technologies such as 5G.

Ernest also said that with their aggressive rollouts, their network was getting closer to making the whole of Metro Manila 5G-ready, adding that their goal was to make the 5G experience as pervasive as possible.

Globe Telecom was also deploying 5G sites in other key cities such as Davao and Cebu.

Citing data from Ookla, Globe said in a separate statement that the country’s average speeds improved in December 2020.

Last month, the country’s average mobile download speed was higher at 22.5Mbps compared to 18.49 Mbps in November 2020, with an upload speed of 6.03 Mbps and latency of 33 ms.
