Galvez: Sinovac To Get EUA For COVID-19 Vaccine Before February 20

Sinovac would get EUA for its COVID-19 vaccine before February 20, according to Galvez.

Vaccine czar Sec. Carlito Galvez, Jr. on Wednesday said that an emergency use authorization (EUA) for Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine will be granted before February 20, 2021.

During the day’s Laging Handa public briefing, Galvez said that the EUA for Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine will be granted before February 20.

Maganda ang arrangement natin kasi may darating kada buwan — 50,000 doses of Sinovac sa February, tapos 950,000 sa March, tapos one million, two million, 3 million kada buwan,” Galvez said.

However, Sinovac has yet to apply for an emergency use authorization before the Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

At the Laging Handa briefing, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Sarah Arriola said that Sinovac — as well as Sinopharm — would seek an emergency use authorization this month.

According to Galvez, Sinovac was consolidating the results of late-stage clinical trials of the CoronaVac vaccine in Turkey and Brazil, which will be submitted to the Food and Drug Administration.

Galvez also said that Sinovac was awaiting approval for “general public use” and “authority to export” from the Chinese government.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) was currently evaluating the EUA applications for COVID-19 vaccines developed by Gamaleya Research Institute, AstraZeneca-Oxford, and Pfizer-BioNTech.

Sinovac had been issued an emergency use authorization in Indonesia after human clinical trials there showed that it was at least 65 percent effective.

Indonesia was the first country outside of China to grant an emergency use authorization on Sinovac.

The Philippines had targeted to vaccinate up to 70 million individuals this year, with inoculations slated to start in February.
