In a blind-item post on Facebook, The Right Thomasian said that there was a “Bulatlat former EIC (editor in chief) and now AB Journalism faculty member” who allegedly helped recruit a Thomasian to the “countryside” or guerrilla force.

“Lucky words kay Journ ay Pilipinas at Salbabida,” according to the right-wing FB page.

Although not named, it is indicated in the comments section that it refers to “journ prof na naglabas ng statement noon sa ABS-CBN shutdown” and “The Second Hokage.”

This prompted UST journalism professor and former Manila Times editor Felipe Salvosa II to react.

“Whoever is running this page is spreading a malicious and unfounded accusation via a seemingly innocuous blind item. The author of the post however dropped a hint in the comments section, which was why I felt alluded to,” he said in a tweet.

He added that he was not part of the alternative media Bulatlat and he did not recruit students for the communist rebellion.

The teacher also pointed out that the statement about the ABS-CBN shutdown represents his personal and professional stand as part of the journalism faculty.

“As a faculty member and journalism program head of UST, I am fully committed to the rules and regulations of the University, its vision and mission, its Catholic identity, and to the molding of commited, compassionate and competent Thomasians,” Salvosa said.

“The owners of this page should show evidence that I recruited for the armed rebellion, not hide behind anonymity and blind items. I reserve my right to any legal recourse to protect my reputation,” he added.

Salvosa was first linked to the reds following his resignation from the Manila Times after the newspaper released a matrix in which he linked the relationship of some media entities to the alleged plan to oust President Rodrigo Duterte.
