PNP chief Gen. Sinas on “Christmas Party” Video: “Fake news po iyon”

In a press conference held in San Fernando, Pampanga, Sinas answered when asked if he attended a Christmas party, with some netizens calling it as “mañanita part two”.

Negative po, fake news po iyon,” Sinas said.

According to him, he had seen the supposed “Christmas party” video and clarified that the said video was originally taken during a retirement party of a classmate in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan last January.

Sinas also said that they didn’t have a Christmas party, adding that maybe there were some people who didn’t do anything in life, but that wasn’t true.

Before assuming the Philippine National Post (PNP) chief post, Sinas was previously embroiled in controversy while he’s still the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief as he and 18 others were photographed during a “mañanita” or a surprise birthday serenade for Sinas’ birthday last May.

The surprise birthday serenade was held when Luzon and several parts of the Philippines were still under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) that banned mass gatherings.

Following the “mañanita” fiasco, Sinas apologized but he insisted that he and the other police officers who were present in the gathering had followed health protocols.

Sinas then apologized for the fiasco, but clarified that he and other police officers who were present in the said gathering had observed the safety precautions against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

President Rodrigo Duterte defended Sinas and said that it wasn’t Sinas’ fault that his men at the National Capital Region Police Office threw him a “mañanita”.
