Citing people familiar with the said matter, Nikkei reported that it had asked suppliers to produce around 95 million to 96 million iPhones — including the iPhone 12 series and older iPhone 11 and SE as well — even though the shortage of key parts could threaten the target number.

The planned production for the next quarter and the following quarter have been decided and the outlook is quite bright. The iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max are especially stronger than we estimated, while the demand for iPhone 12 is in line with the forecast, but iPhone 12 mini is a bit sluggish,” an executive at a key Apple supplier told Nikkei.

As per the report, this would mark a 20 percent increase from 2019 even though the target would be regularly reviewed and revised in response to any changes in consumer demand.

Nikkei also reported that the tentative full-year forecast that Apple shared with its suppliers suggested that it planned to manufacture up to 230 million iPhones in 2021 — including both old and new iPhone models.

Meanwhile, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo mentioned that Apple would be able to manufacture and launch the iPhone 13 models on a regular schedule in 2021, which means that the public could expect that all iPhone 13 models will be available without delays by September 2021.
