Smart completed its nationwide VoLTE rollout for Prepaid and Postpaid subscribers
Smart Communications had successfully completed its rollout of VoLTE (Voice over LTE) service nationwide for both Prepaid and Postpaid subscribers.
To recall, VoLTE (Voice over LTE) or full IP-based carrier-grade voice service offered high-fidelity quality phone calls using LTE networks instead of the legacy voice networks claims in order to offer clearer calls with minimal background noise.
An added benefit was that Prepaid and Postpaid subscribers can make and receive calls over mobile data applications instead of the legacy setup wherein devices shifted from LTE network to either 2G or 3G mobile networks during a voice call.

The caller and the receiver should both have an LTE SIM and VoLTE-capable smartphones in order for Prepaid and Postpaid subscribers to use VoLTE service.
In addition, users should also enable the VoLTE feature in their smartphone settings. Once activated, the VoLTE icon would appear on the Notification bar of their smartphone.
Lastly, VoLTE (Voice over LTE) and VoWiFi (Voice over WiFi) were charged like normal calls against the active postpaid subscription for postpaid users, while the normal local and international voice and text rates would apply for prepaid users.
Meanwhile, Smart Communications was planning to roll out 2,000 new cell sites next year.
