Pasig City Mayor Sotto encouraged evacuees to avail of free COVID-19 tests

Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto encouraged residents who had evacuated during the onslaught of typhoon “Ulysses” to voluntarily take the free COVID-19 antibody testing of the local government.

With the ongoing threat of COVID-19 pandemic, Mayor Sotto emphasized the importance of undertaking such test, saying that by doing so was to prevent the possible transmission of coronavirus disease in the community.

Sotto on Wednesday said that this was a big help in their fight against COVID-19, adding that this was for the safety of the entire community.

Libre naman po. Isipin po natin yung nanay, tatay, lola, at lolo na maaari nating mahawaan kung positibo pala tayo. Kahit na wala tayong sintomas, baka di sila maging kasing swerte,” Mayor Sotto said.

The local government of Pasig City conducted an ECLIA (enhanced chemiluminescence immunoassay) testing to evacuees of the recent typhoon and had taken the initiative as a measure to ensure the safety of residents and avoid the further spread of coronavirus disease.

Around 10,000 city residents — mostly from flood-prone areas in Pasig City — had taken shelter in evacuation centers prepared by the local government.

Mayor Sotto lamented that it’s difficult to enforce physical distancing in evacuation centers since health protocols were difficult to maintain 100% of the time.
